The North American Hockey League (NAHL) announced today the schedule of its 2009 Showcase Tournament, which will be held from September 16-19 at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minn.
All 19 NAHL teams will play four regular-season games at the event. The USA Hockey National Team Development Program¹s Under-17 Team will also play four games.
Now in its seventh season, the NAHL Showcase Tournament has evolved into one of hockey's most prestigious and well-attended events of the entire season. For scouting purposes, the four-day event is a can't-miss for every NCAA program and NHL team as they get their first look at some of the best and brightest hockey talent North America has to offer.
In conjunction with the NAHL Showcase Tournament, 64 Midget and Bantam teams will play at the Super Rink from September 17-20. Thirty-six teams (20 Midget Major, 16 Midget Minor) will compete in the first North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) event of the season, with 26 others (eight Midget Major, 10 Midget Minor, eight Bantam) skating in the at-large division of the NAHL Future Prospects Tournament.
The Super Rink is the largest ice arena of its kind in the world. The state-of-the-art facility, a $21 million project totaling over 300,000 square feet, features eight sheets of ice under one roof.
